Arms Companies Team

It is horrifying to think that arms companies here in Scotland – here in the heart of Glasgow – are churning out the weapons and components that are murdering children in Gaza.
BAE, Elbit, Thales, Raytheon, and Leonardo all sit on our doorsteps producing deathly hardware for Israel’s genocidal regime. Just as these companies are assembling and dispatching their horror cargo, we need to be assembling our own responsive team to stop them.

Who Are We Calling On

  • Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise
  • Glasgow City Council
  • Trade Unions within arms companies

What Do We Want

The Scottish Government to issue an emergency call stating that it will act in all available capacities to help prevent the production and transfer of weapons components for Israel from arms companies in Scotland

Glasgow Council to commission a comprehensive study of Strathclyde Pension Fund to identify and cancel any investments in companies that supply arms to Israel

Trade Unions to declare that they will embargo all Israeli-bound weaponry

How Are We Aiming to Achieve This

  • Through peaceful civil disruption, media visibility, and building public support
  • Protesting at and around arms company sites
  • Protesting arms companies’ political sponsors
  • Demonstrations and actions at Glasgow City Chambers and the offices of arms-supporting MSPs, MPs, and councillors
  • Supporting direct action groups. Recent blockades at BAE in Govan are a good illustration of how a GGEC arms team can offer quick supportive response at short notice
  • Participants should be assured that they are not expected to partake in any form of activity that may cause them personal concern
  • Investigating Scottish Enterprise and other Scottish Government fundings streams to arms-related firms
  • Creating arms-related content for distribution across GGEC social media platforms, including information on upcoming actions, recruitment of supporters, and rights to protest at arms-related sites
  • Writing statements, sending letters, and initiation petitions
  • Driving and supporting trade unions to help stop arms to Israel
  • Engaging with union leaders and members to get these arms embargoed, reminding them that they not only have a moral duty to block weaponry to Israel, but a legal obligation not to enable the genocide
